Before buying it, or any remote, it is worth spending thirty seconds finding out whether the remote is actually the fault. Most people replace a handset because a door stopped responding, and a fair share of those doors were never the handset's doing at all.

The test uses the indicator light on the front. Press a button in a dim room and watch it. If it lights, the cell has charge, the switch under the button is closing and a signal is leaving the case. Its 23A cell is in place on arrival, the compartment is screwed shut, and a coding sheet and key ring come along with it. The badge reads Auto Openers and the opener reads Merlin, and the two businesses are unrelated. It is not manufactured, authorised, endorsed or approved by Merlin.
