About the Merlin+ C943 Genuine Visor Remote

There is a reliable way to tell which you have, and it takes ten seconds at the motor rather than a phone call. Read the model code off the label on the motor head. Merlin's newer generation puts EVO or MYQ inside the code, as in MR650EVO, MR855MYQ, MT120EVOPS or ST50EVOC. The Merlin+ generation this remote belongs to never does, so a code that is letters and numbers with neither of those strings in it is the generation you want. That rule holds across every opener published against both sides of this family, which is why it is worth more than trying to match a photo.

Three channels means three doors or gates from the one handset, which on a Merlin+ property is usually a garage and a driveway gate with one spare. The visor clip is supplied, which is what puts this remote in the car rather than on a key ring.

Taking the gate motors first, it suits the MGS300, MGS500, MGS500T, MGS1000 and MGS1000T sliders and the MGL300 and MGL400 swing units, along with the MGA600 XLR8. On garage doors it suits the MR60, MR600, MR600A, MR650, MR800, MR800A, MR850 and MR1000 rollers, the MT60, MT60P, MT230, MT600, MT800, MT1000, MT5580 and MT5580P tilt and sectional units, the MT3850 Whisper Drive, the MJ3800 and MJ3800R, the ML500, ML700 and ML750, and the MLR500, MLR750 and MLR850. The LM800AMT, the CB22 board and a C945 handset are on the same list.

The transmission is AM on 433 MHz with rolling code, so a fresh code goes out on each press. A CR2032 3V cell is included and the cover over it needs a tool.

The trap in all of this is that Merlin reused base numbers across the two generations. MR650 and MR650EVO are different openers. So are MR850 and MR850EVO, MT3850 and MT3850EVO, and MJ3800 and MJ3800MYQ. Four numbers that exist on both sides of the divide, and four ways to order the wrong remote by reading the first half of a label and stopping.
