About the Merlin+ 2.0 E980M Genuine Water Resistant Remote

IP65 means two specific things. The first digit is dust, and a 6 is the top of that scale: nothing gets in at all. The second digit is water, and a 5 means it is protected against low pressure jets of water from any direction. In practice that covers a remote clipped to a belt on a building site, one that lives in a boat or on a farm, one that gets used at a pool gate with wet hands, and one that goes through the wash in a pocket because somebody forgot. An unsealed remote survives none of those reliably.

Like the E960M, it codes to both Merlin generations, so a single handset works across a Merlin+ motor and a Merlin+ 2.0 motor. Merlin state it suits any Merlin garage door opener manufactured since 2009.

It covers the Commander family in MS125MYQ Extreme, MS105MYQ Elite, MS65MYQ Essential and MJ3800MYQ Ultimate form, the Silentdrive and Quietdrive units from MR855MYQ down through MR855EVO, MR850EVO, MR655MYQ, MR655EVO and MR650EVO, the MR550EVO Weatherdrive, and the Chamberlain CS100EVO Powerlift Plus, CS60EVO Powerlift, CR655MYQ Rollerlift and CR625EVO HandyLift Plus 2.0.

On Merlin+ it reaches back to the HE60 and HE60R, the MLR750 and MLR850, the ML500 and ML700, the MGS500, MGS500T, MGS1000 and MGS1000T, the MGL300 and MGL400, the MGA600, the MJ3800 and MJ3800R, the MT230, MT600, MT800, MT1000, MT3850, MT60, MT60P, MT5580 and MT5580P, and the MR60 through to the MR1000.

Four independently coded buttons run up to four powered doors or gates. The code rolls on every activation, drawn from over one hundred billion possibilities, and a green LED confirms each press.

Power is a CR2032 3V coin cell, supplied fitted, behind a cover that needs a tool. A swallowed coin cell causes serious internal injury within hours. Store spares somewhere a small child cannot reach, and take flat ones to a battery recycling point rather than putting them in the bin.

If the remote is only ever going to sit on a set of house keys or a car visor, the E960M does the same job on the same two generations for less, and the sealing is the only thing you give up.
