About the Merlin+ 2.0 E960M Genuine Remote
It is not the only Merlin handheld that codes to both generations, and anybody telling you otherwise is overselling it. What is true is that it is the least expensive of the dual coding handhelds Allgate stocks, which makes it the sensible default unless you need something the others have.
Four buttons, each programmed independently, means up to four doors or gates from one device. A house with a garage door, a second garage, a driveway gate and a shed runs the lot from a remote the size of a car key.
On the Merlin+ 2.0 side it covers the Chamberlain units, meaning the CR625EVO HandyLift Plus 2.0, the CR655MYQ Rollerlift, the CS60EVO Powerlift and the CS100EVO Powerlift Plus. It covers the Commander range in MJ3800MYQ Ultimate, MS65MYQ Essential, MS105MYQ Elite, MS125MYQ Extreme and MT110MYQ myQ form. It covers the Silentdrive and Quietdrive family, being the MR650EVO, MR655EVO, MR655MYQ, MR850EVO, MR855EVO and MR855MYQ. It also covers the MR550EVO Weatherdrive, the MT3850EVO Whisperdrive, the MT100EVO Tiltmaster, the MT120EVOPS CyclonePro, the MT50EVO EntryLift, the MT60EVO Powerace, the MRC950EVO Overdrive and the Steel-Line ST50EVOB, ST50EVOB1 and ST50EVOC.
On the older Merlin+ side it covers the MR60, MR600, MR600A, MR650, MR800, MR800A, MR850 and MR1000, the MT5580 and MT5580P, the MT60 and MT60P, the MT600, MT800, MT1000, MT230 and MT3850, the MJ3800 and MJ3800R, the MGA600, the MGL300 and MGL400, the MGS500, MGS500T, MGS1000 and MGS1000T, the ML500 and ML700, the MLR750 and MLR850, and the HE60 and HE60R. It also codes alongside the C945, E943, E945 and E950M remotes.
The coding is rolling, generating a fresh code on every press from a pool of over one hundred billion, so a device that captures the signal in your driveway cannot replay it later. A green LED flashes to confirm the press went out, which tells you the remote is working before you have driven off.
It measures roughly 3.14 cm wide, 7.35 cm long and 1.18 cm deep, which is keyring size and equally happy clipped to a car visor. Power is a CR2032 3V coin cell, fitted before dispatch, behind a cover that needs a tool. Coin cells cause severe injury if swallowed, so keep new and flat ones away from children and take used cells to a battery recycling point.
If the remote is going to live outdoors, on a boat, on a work belt or anywhere it will get wet, look at the Merlin+ 2.0 E980M Genuine Water Resistant Remote instead. It codes to the same two generations and is sealed against dust and water, which this one is not.
