About the Merlin M802 Genuine Remote

Start with the buttons, because that is the fastest way to know whether you are on the right page. This remote suits blue button Merlin handsets. If the buttons on the remote you are replacing are grey, this is not the one you need, and neither is it if your remote is an M872. Those are different parts that look close enough to catch people out.

It suits the M230T and M430R Prolift openers, the P-230T Prolift, and the blue M802 remote itself.

There are four ways to end up with the wrong remote here, so it is worth reading the list. It does not suit green Merlin remotes. It does not suit Merlin+ equipment. It does not suit Merlin+ 2.0 equipment. And it does not suit any Merlin motor manufactured after July 2001, regardless of what the remote looks like.

That July 2001 date is the useful one to hold onto, because it marks where Merlin moved on. If the motor above your garage door was installed this century, in most cases you are on a later system and one of the Merlin+ or Merlin+ 2.0 handhelds is what you want instead. If you are not sure which era your opener belongs to, ring 1300 736 683 and read us whatever model number is printed on the motor housing, and we will point you at the right listing before you spend anything.

The battery is a 23A 12V cell, fitted before dispatch. A 23A is a small cylindrical battery rather than a flat coin cell, and it takes a tool rather than a thumbnail to get the cover off.

A word about age. Equipment from this era has been working for well over two decades, and a remote that has stopped being reliable is sometimes the first sign of a receiver on its way out rather than a fault in the handset. If a new remote does not fix the problem, an Allgate technician can test the receiver and tell you honestly whether the opener is worth keeping. Parts for openers of this vintage are not always still made.

Buying a second one at the same time is worth considering on a remote this old, because the day this model stops being available is closer than it is for anything on the current Merlin systems.

Battery safety

This product is supplied with a 23A 12V battery, which is not a coin battery. Keep new and used batteries out of reach of children, and dispose of used batteries safely. A flat battery can still cause harm.

Delivery, returns and fitting

Shipping costs and delivery times are shown beside the Add to cart button above. Unused parts can be returned by post within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, with return postage paid by you. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply on top of that, so if the part you receive turns out not to suit your opener, call us before you program it and we will work out what does. Our full terms of sale are set out on the Allgate terms and conditions page.

Most customers fit and code a new part themselves in a few minutes using the instructions supplied. If you would rather have it done, an Allgate technician can program and test it on site anywhere we work, which is every suburb listed on the Sydney service areas page.

Not sure the Merlin M802 Genuine Remote is the right part?

Buying the wrong remote is the most common mistake we see, and it is almost always avoidable with one photograph. Send a clear shot of the front and the back of your existing unit, plus one of the motor if you can reach it safely, to service@allgate.com.au and our team will tell you exactly which part suits your opener. If you would rather talk it through, our domestic line is 1300 736 683, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm. Commercial and strata customers can reach a technician on 1300 655 600 at any hour, on any day.

You can also search the catalogue by the model number printed on your existing handset, which is the fastest way to find the match yourself.
