About the Merlin M802 Compatible Remote

Two things on the remote you already own decide whether this suits. The buttons have to be blue, and the model must not be an M872. Merlin also sold a grey button handset of much the same shape, close enough to fool anybody at arm's length, and the M872 is a different part again. If either of those describes what you are holding, this is not your remote, and a phone call now is cheaper than a return later.

The published list runs to the M230T Prolift, the M430R Prolift, the P-230T Prolift and the blue M802 remote itself.

Everything in this family stops at the same boundary. Green Merlin remotes are outside it. Merlin+ is outside it. Merlin+ 2.0 is outside it. So is any Merlin motor built after July 2001, whatever the handset looks like.

It runs at 40.685 MHz, which is an Australian allocation, so it is sold for use in Australia only. That frequency is also the quickest way to confirm which era you are in, because everything Merlin has built since sits a long way away from it on the dial.

We stock the Merlin made version as well. The Merlin M802 Genuine Remote covers the same openers and costs more, and the reason to consider it is range. An aftermarket handset can reach less far than the part it replaces. On a short suburban driveway that never shows up. From the far end of a long one, or out of a basement, it sometimes does.

The handset is slim and black, roughly 3.47 cm wide, 5.55 cm long and 1.5 cm deep, which suits a pocket or a visor clip. An LED confirms each press. It operates one door. The 23A 12V cell is fitted before dispatch and the compartment needs a tool.

Merlin did not make this handset. It is not manufactured, authorised, endorsed or approved by Merlin.

That LED is worth understanding on equipment this old. If it still lights and the door still does not move, the fault has moved past the handset, and on Prolift openers that usually means the receiver. At that point you need a technician rather than a third remote, and we would rather tell you so before you buy one.

Battery safety

This product is supplied with a 23A 12V battery, which is not a coin battery. Keep new and used batteries out of reach of children, and dispose of used batteries safely. A flat battery can still cause harm.

Delivery, returns and fitting

Shipping costs and delivery times are shown beside the Add to cart button above. Unused parts can be returned by post within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, with return postage paid by you. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply on top of that, so if the part you receive turns out not to suit your opener, call us before you program it and we will work out what does. Our full terms of sale are set out on the Allgate terms and conditions page.

Most customers fit and code a new part themselves in a few minutes using the instructions supplied. If you would rather have it done, an Allgate technician can program and test it on site anywhere we work, which is every suburb listed on the Sydney service areas page.

Not sure the Merlin M802 Compatible Remote is the right part?

Buying the wrong remote is the most common mistake we see, and it is almost always avoidable with one photograph. Send a clear shot of the front and the back of your existing unit, plus one of the motor if you can reach it safely, to service@allgate.com.au and our team will tell you exactly which part suits your opener. If you would rather talk it through, our domestic line is 1300 736 683, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm. Commercial and strata customers can reach a technician on 1300 655 600 at any hour, on any day.

You can also search the catalogue by the model number printed on your existing handset, which is the fastest way to find the match yourself.
