About the Merlin M800 Compatible Remote

Its published compatibility list is the shortest of any Merlin remote we stock, and what is missing from it matters as much as what is on it. The list runs to three entries: the M230T Prolift, the M430R Prolift and the blue M800 itself. It does not name the M802. It does not name the P-230T. If either of those is what you are replacing, the Merlin M802 Compatible Remote is published against both and is the listing to use.

We publish the list the supplier publishes and we do not quietly extend it. A model that is not named is not automatically incompatible, but it is not something we are willing to promise either, and on twenty five year old equipment the difference between those two positions is a wasted afternoon.

This is pre 2001 Merlin. The company changed systems that year, so a green remote, a Merlin+ opener, a Merlin+ 2.0 opener or anything manufactured after July 2001 falls outside this listing completely. If the motor above your door was installed this century, you are almost certainly on a later system and want a different handset.

The radio is 40.685 MHz, an Australian frequency allocation that Merlin left behind long ago, which is why remotes for it are aftermarket rather than current stock.

Physically it is a slim black unit at about 3.47 cm wide, 5.55 cm long and 1.5 cm deep, with an LED to confirm transmission, controlling a single door. A 23A 12V battery is supplied and installed, behind a cover that needs a tool.

Nobody at Merlin had anything to do with this one. It is not manufactured, authorised, endorsed or approved by Merlin.

The M800 is now old enough that finding a second working example to test against is genuinely difficult. If yours has stopped and there is nothing else in the house to compare it with, photograph the model plate on the motor before you order anything. On a Prolift opener that plate is the most reliable piece of identification left on the property.
