Merlin compatible remote handset 434MHz (The Key Guys)
The Merlin compatible remote handset 434MHz from The Key Guys is a four button aftermarket remote for Merlin openers. Check three things on the remote you already own before ordering: that it looks identical to the one pictured, that the button colours match, and that it is labelled KGMR01. If the label reads anything else, this is not the part you need.

About the Merlin compatible remote handset 434MHz (The Key Guys)
The reason to be careful is sitting right beside it in our catalogue. We also stock the Merlin PLUS compatible remote handset 434MHz, labelled KGMPR02, and it is the same price, the same size, the same four buttons and the same frequency. This one suits the earlier Merlin range and the KGMPR02 suits the later Merlin PLUS range. Held side by side they are almost impossible to separate. Read the label rather than trusting the shape.
On the equipment side, this handset belongs to the earlier Merlin range and specifically to the M832 and M842 generation. Those are the green button Merlin remotes, and the openers supplied with them are what this unit is for. It does not reach forward into Merlin PLUS or Merlin+ 2.0 equipment, which is where the KGMPR02 and the genuine Merlin+ handsets take over.
That gives you a second check to run alongside the label, and one you can make from the remote itself. If the handset you are replacing is a Merlin M832 or an M842, or a copy of one, you are on the correct side of the divide. If it reads Merlin+ or Merlin+2.0 on the front, you are on the wrong side of it, and no amount of matching buttons will change that.
Two other listings cover the same Merlin generation if a Key Guys label is not what you are replacing. The Merlin M842 Genuine Remote is the part from the brand itself and carries the range that goes with it. The Merlin Compatible Remote (M842/M844) is the cheaper aftermarket route. This page is for the specific case where the original was a KGMR01 and like for like is what you want.
Four buttons, each coded on its own, will run up to four doors or gates. Plenty of households only ever use one of them, and there is no harm in that, but it does mean a single handset can take over a garage door, a shed and a driveway gate if you want to carry less.
Power is a 27A 12V battery, supplied already fitted, in a compartment that needs a tool. It is a cylindrical cell rather than a flat coin one, and it is a common enough size that a replacement is easy to come by when the day arrives.
This is an aftermarket part rather than a Merlin one. It is not manufactured, authorised, endorsed or approved by Merlin, and the word genuine is reserved on this site for handsets that come from the brand itself.
If you cannot find a label, or the printing has rubbed off after years on a keyring, send photographs of the front and the back to service@allgate.com.au and we will identify it. Between this handset and the KGMPR02 there is nothing visible to go on, so a guess here is a coin toss with a return attached.

Battery safety
This product is supplied with a 27A 12V battery, which is not a coin battery. Keep new and used batteries out of reach of children, and dispose of used batteries safely. A flat battery can still cause harm.
Delivery, returns and fitting
Shipping costs and delivery times are shown beside the Add to cart button above. Unused parts can be returned by post within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, with return postage paid by you. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply on top of that, so if the part you receive turns out not to suit your opener, call us before you program it and we will work out what does. Our full terms of sale are set out on the Allgate terms and conditions page.
Most customers fit and code a new part themselves in a few minutes using the instructions supplied. If you would rather have it done, an Allgate technician can program and test it on site anywhere we work, which is every suburb listed on the Sydney service areas page.
