About the Code Ezy Merlin Compatible Remote

Two kinds of buyer end up here. The first is replacing a remote that already reads Code Ezy on the case, usually because that is what a previous installer handed over. The second is choosing the brand on purpose, and that is the more interesting reason.

Code Ezy is one of the few aftermarket ranges that spans openers from different manufacturers. Allgate stocks Code Ezy handsets for ATA, for B&D and for both Merlin systems, and they are recognisably the same family in the hand. On a property with a Merlin garage door and, say, a B&D roller door at the back, that means two remotes that look and feel alike rather than two unrelated objects, which sounds trivial until somebody has to explain to a tenant which one opens what. For the Merlin+ side of the Merlin range, the matching unit is the Code Ezy Merlin+ Compatible Remote.

Compatibility here is the green system and only the green system: the M230T Prolift, the M430R Prolift and the green M832, M842 and M844 remotes. Blue Merlin handsets are a different range, Merlin+ and Merlin+ 2.0 are different systems again, and motors built before July 2001 belong to the earlier generation. None of those will work with this handset.

It runs up to four doors from four independently coded buttons, transmits on 433.92 MHz, and the supplier rates it as long range. The case is slim at about 3 cm by 7 cm by 1.2 cm and carries a slide protector over the buttons along with an LED to confirm transmission. A 27A 12V cylindrical cell is fitted before dispatch, in a compartment that opens with a tool.

The supplier publishes third party testing against AS62368.1 for this handset, which is the electrical safety standard covering the battery enclosure. It is not a coin cell product, so the coin battery rules do not apply to it, but the testing is published and worth noting where a remote is going to a rental or a workplace.

Code Ezy is not Merlin. This handset is not manufactured, authorised, endorsed or approved by Merlin.

If you are ordering more than one for the same property, order them together. Remotes bought months apart are the ones that turn out to be subtly different in the hand, and on a range where several models look alike that is exactly the confusion worth avoiding.
