About the B&D WTB-8v1 Genuine Wall Remote

The most useful thing to establish before ordering is what this is not. It is not a hardwired wall button. There is no cable, no terminal block and nothing to connect at the motor. It is a battery powered transmitter in a slim white case that happens to be screwed to a wall instead of living on a key ring, and it speaks to the opener over the same Tri-Tran radio the handsets use. No electrician is needed and neither is a ladder to the ceiling.

That changes where it can go. A wired button has to sit where the cable reaches, which is normally beside the internal door because that is where the cable was pulled during the build. This one goes wherever it is genuinely useful and within radio range of the opener, and it can be moved later for the cost of two screws and a dab of filler. Two screws and two wall plugs are packed inside the back of the case.

You are looking for a white case with four buttons set into a black circular panel, three of them black and one red.

Four buttons hold four coded channels from a single plate, so a garage door, a gate and a second opener can all be worked without walking to another switch. The code rolls on every press, so nothing useful can be recorded from outside.

A CR2032 is supplied fitted, under a cover that needs a tool. Mount the plate somewhere a screwdriver can still reach that cover, because a unit fixed hard against a door frame or behind a shelf is a nuisance to service later.

One installation habit worth borrowing from our technicians. Code the unit into the opener before drilling anything, then hold it against the wall at the height you intend to fix it and press it there. Radio behaves differently beside a steel frame, against brickwork or across a metal roller door than it does in the middle of the floor, and finding that out first costs five minutes instead of a set of holes in the wrong place.
