Before ordering, check that your existing remote looks identical to the one on the left of the product image, that it has a red outline around the button, and that your motor has 9 switches inside. About the B&D MPC2 Compatible Remote
Three checks tell you whether it suits you, and all three are on equipment you already own. Your current remote should look identical to the one indicated on the left of the main image. It should have a red outline around its button. And the motor should have nine switches inside it. Where all three are true this is a direct replacement.
If your remote has a white box around the button instead of a red outline, stop here. That is the other B&D single button family, and the handset you need is the B&D MPC3/MPC4 Compatible Remote, which runs on 315 MHz and works in an entirely different way. Three megahertz apart, two systems that cannot hear each other, and nothing on the outside of the case to separate them except the marking around the button.
The switches are the whole of the coding. This remote carries its own set of internal switches, the motor carries nine, and programming amounts to setting one to match the other by following the sheet in the box. Nothing is paired, there is no learn button to find and no window of time to beat.
The useful consequence is that you do not need a working remote to set this one up. The code lives in the motor as much as in the handset, so a household that has mislaid everything it owns is still in a recoverable position, provided somebody can safely reach the opener and read the switch positions off the board.
The coding is fixed rather than rolling, which means the same code goes out on every press. That is how this generation of B&D equipment was built, not a shortcoming of this particular remote, and a replacement handset reproduces exactly the security the original had. If that concerns you, the way forward is a modern receiver paired with rolling code handsets. That is installation work rather than a part off the shelf, and our technicians can price it for you.
The handset itself is a single button unit in a black case, built heavier than the price suggests, and it arrives with a keychain fitted. The 27A 12V battery is installed before it is packed and sits behind a cover that needs a tool. A 27A is cylindrical and about the size of a small fuse, so it is not a coin cell and it is easy to replace. Flat ones should go to a battery recycling point.
This is an aftermarket remote rather than a B&D product. It is not manufactured, authorised, endorsed or approved by B&D.
Before you change anything inside the motor, photograph the nine switches. It takes a second and it is the only record of your code that exists anywhere. Putting a switch back exactly where it was is a great deal easier than working out afterwards where it had been.

Battery safety
This product is supplied with a 27A 12V battery, which is not a coin battery. Keep new and used batteries out of reach of children, and dispose of used batteries safely. A flat battery can still cause harm.
