Genuine remotes are made by the original brand, such as a Merlin E960M or a B&D TB6, and are guaranteed to match your opener exactly. Compatible remotes are a more affordable alternative that use the same rolling code or fixed code frequency as the original, so they operate your gate or garage door just like the factory handset at a lower price.

Not sure which remote you need? The easiest way to identify it is by the model number printed on the back of your existing remote, or by the brand badge on your gate or garage motor. Common Sydney models include the Merlin M842 and C945, the B&D TB5 and TB6, the ATA PTX4, PTX5 and PTX6, the CAME TOP432 and the Grifco range used on many commercial and strata roller shutters. Modern remotes use rolling code encryption, which sends a unique code every time you press the button so the signal can never be copied or replayed. This keeps your home, driveway and building far more secure than older fixed code systems, and it is why we always recommend replacing an ageing remote rather than persisting with one that has become unreliable.
